English time!


Here is my English blog. I will try to show some activities for reading and listening skills in Primary Education.
The topic that we are going to review is the weather and clothes. It is something that the children already know so It doesn't be difficult for them.
These activities are thought for Primary Education, to children 7-8 years old more or less.
This would be our timetable:

Activity 1: Time to play

The first day we begin to introduce the topic by reading a book. The title is "Hippo has a hat"
The children have to sit down in the meeting and the teacher read the book for them.


Now is time to play. We need to review the topic of weather and clothes. 
The first game we are going to do is "The Odd One Out".





This activity aims to develope the listening skills of the children by play.
This game is not only for the theme that I have chosen, it is possible to use in the topics and subjects that you prefer.

The Odd One Out  consist on tell the pupils 4 or 5 words about a topic but ONE of those words doesn't have to be of the same issue as the other.


  •    For example:

            SHORTS                 T-SHIRT              SCARF              SUNGLASSES

When the teacher says the 4 words, one of the children that know the answer has to say:
  • The odd one out is....SCARF.
And the teacher has to say: WHY??
  • The Odd One Out is the scarf because it is not for summer.
Of course, The Odd One Out is the scarf so it's the turn of this guy.

Activity 2: Let's sing!

This second activity consist on listen, read and sing a song. As all activities of the blog, the topic is the weather and clothes than we wear in different seasons.

The activity starts by reading the song. We do this at first to let students know about the song before listening

When it´s cold, very cold, very cold
I put on my scarf, I put on my coat.
When it´s hot, very hot, very hot
I take off my scarf and put on my shorts.

Yellow jumper, green skirt
purple T-shirt, orange dress, 
my trousers are blue 
and brown are my shoes.

When it´s hot, very hot, very hot
I put on my t-shirt and my shorts.
When it´s cold, very cold, very cold

I take off my t-shirt and put on my coat.

After read the song, we listen to it once. Then the teacher give to some pupils the flashcards below. Let's play to Piano game!




Now, ten children have each flashcard named like clothes and weather that appear in the song and they have to put on a line in front of their partners.

The game consist on replay the song and by the moment that the song says each words, the child who has that word has to rise the card. For this reason the game is called Piano game, because the children move like the piano keys.

At the beginning, we have to do the warm-up, to let the children know the game. The teacher has to shout the words that he/she wants and the children
have to rise up the card in correct order.



Finally, the game starts. The teacher replay the song and the children have to be in silence to listen their words. When one of the children do it wrong, he or she has to sit down and the teacher give the card to another child. In this way all the class can play the game.

Activity 3: Guessing game

GUESSING GAME

This activity aims to develop reading skills of the children. The Guessing game consist on read these riddles and resolve them. This type of exercise allows the children develop the logic skill too.

Activity 4: Looking for something to wear

This activity aims to develop listening skill. In this exercise the children has to create their own character wearing with clothes that they hear. 
 First, the pupils listen to four describes of four different people.

They have to cut and glue their character with the clothes they prefer of the 4 descriptions that they have listened. 

When everybody have finished, one by one they have to explain their classmates the clothes that their character wear.
